Fruit kebab and dip

Your 6-7-year-olds will have fun making this delicious snack that the whole family can enjoy. They will take charge of selecting their favourite fruits, which they will chop up ready to thread on to skewers, creating colourful kebabs.  

This toolkit contains a recipe, along with ideas about how you could include it in your lesson. Take a look at the recipe below and refer to it alongside the teaching resources.

Equipment

  • Chopping board

  • Knife

  • Cocktail sticks

  • Serving plate

Steps

  • Step 1

    Remove the grapes from their stalks.

    Step 2

    Peel the satsumas and divide into segments.

  • Step 3

    Step 3

    Cut the melon into cubes. ADULT SUPPORT.

  • Step 4

    Step 4

    Thread pieces of fruit on to cocktail sticks. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 5

    Step 5

    Place the pot of fromage frais in the centre of the serving plate and arrange the kebabs around the ‘dip’.

  • Step 6

    Serve.

1 small bunch
red seedless grapes
1 small bunch
green seedless grapes

satsumas
1/2
honeydew melon, skin and seeds removed
1 small tub
fruit fromage frais (as a dip)

Handy Hint(s)

Try using different types of fruit, such as strawberries, banana and apples.

Veggie kebabs are a great alternative. Try using cherry tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and baby
sweetcorn.
