Perfect pizza

Who doesn’t like pizza? Your 10-11-year-olds will love making this as much as they will enjoy eating it! In doing so, they will practise their measuring skills using a jug and weighing scales, knead the dough, and divide it and shape it into perfect pizza bases. They will develop their cutting techniques and learn how to safely put food in and take food out of the oven wearing oven gloves. What’s not to like?

Perfect pizza

Equipment

  • Weighing scales

  • Baking tray

  • Measuring spoons

  • Sieve

  • Mixing bowl

  • Measuring jug

  • Flour dredger

  • Rolling pin

  • Knife

  • Chopping board

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas mark 6. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 2

    Grease 2 baking trays.

  • Step 3

    Sieve together the flour and salt into a mixing bowl.

  • Step 4

    Stir in the yeast.

  • Step 5

    Add the oil and enough warm water to mix into a soft dough.

  • Step 6

    Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes on a lightly floured work surface.

  • Step 7

    Place the dough in a bowl, cover and allow to prove for 20 minutes.

  • Step 8

    Divide the dough in half.

  • Step 9

    Roll out and shape the dough into two round discs.

  • Step 10

    Place the dough bases on to baking trays.

  • Step 11

    Spread the pizza sauce over the base.

  • Step 12

    Slice the mozzarella cheese. ADULT SUPERVISION.         

  • Step 13

    Arrange the slices of cheese over the tomato sauce.

  • Step 14

    Place the pepperoni over the cheese.

  • Step 15

    Chop the basil and sprinkle over the pizza. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 16

    Place in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes. ADULT SUPERVISION.

500g
strong white flour
1 x 5ml spoon
salt
7g packet
fast-action dried yeast
300ml
warm water
1 x 5ml spoon
oil

For the topping

1 small jar
tomato pizza sauce
1 small ball
mozzarella cheese
6 slices
pepperoni
1 handful
fresh basil

Top tip(s)

Try different combinations of toppings, including plenty of vegetables, eg spinach, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and onion.
