Easy and Affordable Ways to Freshen Up Your Bathroom

Who else has a bathroom that is looking a little worse for wear? For a room that is used so much, it’s important to make sure it has a fresh makeover every once in a while. Having said that, “every once in a while” can start to become damaging to our bank accounts as well as our time schedules! That’s why we need simple and economic ways to give our bathrooms a touch of TLC.

In this article, find out 5 easy and affordable ways to freshen up your restroom. From choosing bargain accessories, sprucing up the walls with a bathroom feature wall or simply bringing in a leafy plant or two, it won’t be long until you are lapping up your fresh, new bathroom!

1. Accessorize to your heart’s content!

One the easiest and quickest ways to freshen up your bathroom is to replace old items with new accessories! Throw out those scratchy, discolored towels, your mouldy wooden toothbrush holder and that nail brush that’s nearly lost all its bristles! Even your bathtub is looking for an upgrade. Instead, it’s time to hit the highstreet for some new bargains. As well as all the above, think new soap dispensers made with stylish brown glass. Choose a decorative soap tray as well as a collection of beautiful scented, organic soaps to place on top of it. Bring even more essence with fresh floral scented candles and why not treat yourself to a new toothbrush as well?

When it comes to choosing new towels, we recommend choosing a bath mat and toilet mat to match! The beauty of changing up your towels and mats is that it will completely change the look of your bathroom. Why not go for a completely new color scheme or use it as an opportunity to add stripe or zig zag patterns into the room?

2. Clean and reseal!

It’s not the most exciting prospect, but trust us – deep cleaning and resealing will completely remodel your washroom! Let’s be honest, most of us, if not all of us, are slaves to the dreaded black mold! After all, it’s a given in any wet and damp room. So being able to completely remove it from your sealing will totally revamp the space! And what’s more, it’s really affordable.

Firstly, deep clean your shower, bath, sink and toilet like you’ve never deep-cleaned before! This will remove as much black mold so that it doesn’t start immediately after you’ve resealed. It’s also good to remove as much dust as possible so that it doesn’t stick onto the sealer and stay there for the next few years.

Next, reseal. You will need a Stanley knife to remove all the old sealant. Just slice along the top and bottom of the old sealant from one end to another and then pull it away. You will need a cartridge gun filled with your new sealant to replace the old. Make sure it is a bathroom and anti-mold option. And then, voila! You will have a fresh, new-looking bathroom.

3. Choose a show-stopping bathroom wallpaper mural!

If you really want to give your bathroom a facelift, go big and bold with a bathroom feature wall! By simply installing this one item, you won’t need to do anything else – what could be easier? Don’t worry. It isn’t as hard as you think it will be.

First and foremost, choose your favorite wallpaper mural design. From tropical jungles, beautiful beach photography, marble effect designs, exotic fish amongst coral or even a faux tile, there are so many options when it comes to bathroom wallpaper.

Next, make sure the wallpaper you choose has anti-mold and anti-mildew properties. There are a lot of bathroom paper murals out there that can survive in damp spaces. Just do your research and find the best one.

Once having found the perfect wallpaper, install it onto a wall that is preferably furthest away from the shower or bath. Make sure it is in a spot that has as few items in front of it as possible – you don’t want any distractions in front of your brand-new feature wall!

To save money, go for a custom-made wallpaper mural. By having a design that is made to fit your wall, you won’t waste money cutting away excess paper or have rolls and rolls left over for no reason.

4. Add a fresh lick of paint

It’s true. Simply adding a fresh lick of paint will make all the difference to your bathroom makeover. Use up the same paint from your last bathroom makeover, or go completely different with a new color scheme. Both will make all the difference.

Don’t limit yourself by only painting the walls. If you spend a lot of time soaking in the bath, why not give yourself something to look at by painting the ceiling in a contrasting color? For instance, why not add a touch of glamor by painting the ceiling in a shimmery gold tone?

If you have moved into a new home and have adopted hideous bathroom tiles, why not be adventurous and paint over them with tile paint? Go bold by choosing a dark navy tone and keep the walls white – a white and navy bathroom is a classic look. Or be totally on-trend and paint them in a shade of sage-green! Remember, you can spend as much as you want when it comes to paint – there’s so much choice out there!

5. Bring in wildlife

Another super easy and affordable way to spruce up your restroom is to choose a range of leafy-green plants! There are so many plant species that thrive in damp and humid environments like the bathroom.

Airy and light Asparagus Fern loves damp environments and would love to be sat on a window sill as it prefers moderate or bright light. But be wary. Although it looks soft, it actually has little thorns to protect itself!

If you want to add a splash of color, choose orchids. They can come in red, purple, pink, white and more. Many love to live in a warm bathroom. Some like to grow in soil but others are epiphytes and can be displayed as air plants. For these types, choose rustic ceramic hanging pots to display your beautiful epiphyte orchids.
